The family of former The Bachelorette contestant Josh Seiter reported his death at the age of 36, but he has claimed that his Instagram has been hacked.
Seiter appeared as a contestant on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of The Bachelorette in 2015. He was eliminated in the first week and has spoken out about his time on the show.
Seiter came out as bisexual in early 2023 and has been open about her mental health struggles. He has previously been diagnosed with OCD, Bipolar Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Seiter’s family announced he had passed away at the age of 36, days after posting about his daily life with depression and anxiety. However, Seiter refuted those claims in a new video on Instagram, alleging that the announcement was made by a hacker playing an “evil prank”.
Bachelorette’s Seiter Is Actually Alive
Seiter’s family confirmed his death in a statement on his Instagram on August 28. Although they did not reveal the cause of his death, this post has encouraged those who are struggling with mental health contact resources for help.
“His brave voice and indomitable spirit have helped thousands of people in their darkest moments feel a little less alone,” the statement read.
“We hope and pray that his soul can continue to live on in the images and text on this page, which we will leave behind for the time being. In doing that, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve.”
Shockingly, Seiter has now revealed that it wasn’t his family who posted the announcement – someone hacked him.
“Hey guys. As you can see, I’m alive and well. My account was hacked,” he said in a video. It was playing a cruel joke and mocking my mental illness and the difficulties I had with depression and suicidal thoughts.”
“I apologize for all the hurt they caused in posting that post,” he continued. “I just got my account back. I will do all I can with my team to try to determine who is behind this but again, I apologize for the confusion. And I will update you guys as more information becomes available. Thank you.”
