Discord is set to launch in-app ads to help support game developers, and they’re coming soon.

In early March 2024, Discord revealed that “sponsored tasks,” or ads, would be added to the platform to help “support game developers” through the popular chat app.

Discord didn’t initially share a release date or even how they would implement advertising into Discord’s overall design, other than mentioning that sponsored missions would be “tastefully” integrated.

A report from The Wall Street Journal claims that Discord-sponsored quests will land on the platform this week and will be displayed on the bottom left of the app.

“The paid promotions come from video game makers and will reward users for completing in-game tasks while their friends watch on Discord,” WSJ said.

Peter Sellis, senior vice president of product at Discord, spoke to The Wall Street: “Ads will be targeted to users based on data about their gameplay, age and geographic location, and they will appear in the lower left corner of the user’s screen. Magazine.

Those who want to complete sponsored missions must stream themselves performing a mission in Discord with at least one friend watching the broadcast. Discord’s first blog post about the feature said users can opt out of seeing Sponsored Tasks in the app if they don’t want to do them or don’t want to see them.

Discord has yet to roll out the sponsored tasks feature to its app, but it should be ready to launch as soon as this week.
