Florida man arrested after trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean on a homemade hamster wheel

A man from Florida has been arrested on federal charges for attempting to cross the Atlantic Ocean on a “human-powered rat wheel”.

Florida Man is one of the oldest memes on the Internet, popularized in 2013 when users began posting illogical and silly fake news stories set in the US state. But now the meme has come to life.

Reza Baluchi had traveled 70 miles off the coast of Georgia in her “ship” when she was seized by the Coast Guard, leading to a “strange three-day confrontation” with the authorities.

He tried to cross the Atlantic Ocean to England, but instead of going by plane or boat, Baluchi started his adventure on “human powered hamster wheel”.

According to a Facebook post by the US Coast Guard, the ship “floats by wiring and buoys”. However, despite the dangers involved in Baluchi’s “clearly unsafe journey,” he refused to leave the ship.

Instead, Bulachi made multiple threats to prevent the officers from boarding the plane. At one point he displayed “two knives and threatened to hurt himself” and even claimed to have a bomb on board, although this was later revealed to be untrue.

He has since been charged with obstructing boarding and had to post $250,000 bail.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Baluchi has attempted to cross the ocean in hamster-like fashion. In 2014, he was found in an inflatable balloon, again 70 miles from Florida with the intention of reaching the Bermuda Triangle.
