Terrorist hideout in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag

According to authorities, security forces have now come quite close to the terrorists’ stronghold in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, where they used bombs and artillery shells to push them out. Since late Tuesday evening, an anti-terror operation has been underway in the dense forests of Kokernag’s Gadol neighborhood in Anantnag. Six days have passed since the first confrontation, in which thousands of soldiers, including commandos, engaged terrorists in an unending gunfight. To neutralize the terrorists, three officers, two from the Army and one from the police, were killed in the line of duty.

Three highly armed suspected terrorists are believed to be hiding in an area with the strategic advantage of deep and steep forests. They are believed to be linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba since Uzair Khan, one of them, joined Lashkar last year and is familiar with the vicinity. Since Saturday, there has been scattered rain at the meeting site, making operations very difficult. Especially on these Pir Panjal hills, there are dense trees, caves, and dense ditches, greatly reducing visibility and increasing the risk when performing.

According to military sources, troops cannot enter the area until it is thoroughly sanitized, although there has been no firing from rebels there. The terrorist may still be alive and hiding, ready to launch a covert attack. They may have even placed an improvised explosive device (IED) inside the hideout and timed it to explode when the army got there. According to insiders, this is the reason the army is advancing so slowly. To clear the area, sniffer dogs and explosive detection tools are also being used. Security personnel believe that the bodies of the terrorists may be in the hideout. Their escape would have been extremely challenging even if they weren’t dead because the army had sealed off the entire area.
