Ridley Scott’s latest swashbuckling epic pits Oscar winner Matt Damon against Kylo Ren himself, Adam Driver. Last match is a historical drama based on the deteriorating friendship between knight Jean de Carrouges (Damon) and squire Jacques Le Gris (The Driver).
When de Carrouges’s wife, Marguerite de Thibouville (Jodie Comer), claims that she was raped by Le Gris, de Carrouges challenges his former best friend to a duel to the death. Based on the book by Eric Jager The Last Stand: The True Story of a Trial by Combat in Medieval Francethe film examines the events surrounding the duel, which would be the last in French history, and its implications – if de Carrouges lost, his wife would be burned at the stake for lying.
The trailer looks amazing and features several men in armor attacking each other with swords. There are also some questionable hairstyles, with Damon sporting a mullet and co-star Ben Affleck as Count Pierre d’Alençon, who is rocking a hairstyle that combines bleached blonde hair and a goatee .
Last match saw Damon and Affleck reunite for their first script since then Goodwill hunting (with help from Nicole Holofcener) and also stars Harriet Walter as Nicole de Buchard, Nathaniel Parker as Sir Robert de Thibouville, Sam Hazeldine as Thomin du Bois, Michael McElhatton as Bernard Latour and Alex Lawther as King Charles VI.
Last match will be released on October 15.
