In an effort to reveal more about consumer viewing habits, Netflix has revealed two lists of the top 10 most watched movies and shows based on number of viewers and hours watched.
Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and chief content officer of Netflix, presented the data during an appearance at Vox Media’s Code Conference. He presented two slides ranking the top 10 movies and series, with data taken during each title’s first 28 days on the streaming platform. The first slide shows the most viewed titles, and the second shows the total number of hours subscribers spent watching the top titles.
When it comes to the most watched movies, action movies starring Chris Hemsworth Exploit reigns with 99 million views, followed by Bird box with 89 million, Secret cash machine with 85 million, and 6 underground And Murder mystery with 83 million. Regarding the series, Bridgerton (season one) took the top spot with 82 million, followed by Lupine: Part 1 And witch (season one) with 76 million.
Although this is the most watched movie but Exploit ranked second in the number of hours viewers spent watching with 231 million hours. Bird box ranked number one with 282 million hours. Both Irish (215 million) and Kissing Booth 2 (209 million) made the list despite not being in the top 10 most watched movies. Bridgerton also ranked first in total time spent watching a series with a whopping 625 million hours. Other notable series include Money Heist: Part Four with 619 million hours, witch (season one) with 541 million hours, and 13 reasons why (season one) with 476 million hours.

“We’re trying to be more transparent with the talent, with the market,” Sarandos said, adding Netflix’s streaming data is largely “a big black box.” He also revealed the success of Squid game is something “we don’t see happening, given its global popularity.”
