The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s true crime epic about the assassination of Maurizio Gucci has dropped. Gucci house details the rise and fall of the Gucci empire over three decades as key family members vied for control of the fashion giant.
Adam Driver leads the large cast as Maurizio Gucci, former head of the House of Gucci. Maurizio spent years in court trying to wrest control of the company from his uncle Aldo Gucci (Al Pacino), eventually driving the fashion house into the ground with his massive spending.
Much of this can be attributed to his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, who assassinated her husband two years after he sold his shares in Gucci in 1993. Reggiani was tried and convicted of the crime killed Maurizio and was sentenced to 29 years in prison. , in which she served 18 years before being released in 2016.
The trailer has a very ’80s feel thanks to the use of Blondie’s Crystal Heart and offensive costumes. It’s worth noting that Jared Leto is once again looking for an Oscar, with the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman almost unrecognizable as overweight Paolo Gucci. Paolo is Aldo’s son and like Maurizio, nearly ruined Gucci thanks to several lawsuits he filed against his father and cousin. Jeremy Irons also appears as Rodolfo Gucci, Maurizio’s father.
The film is based on the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden, with a screenplay by Roberto Bentivegna.
Gucci house will hit theaters on November 24.
