However, there is another option. Instead of deleting Facebook, you can just deactivate your account. But what happens when you deactivate your Facebook account? If you turn off Facebook, can you still use Messenger? And what does deleting Facebook mean compared to deactivating it?
What is the difference between deleting and deactivating Facebook?
There is a difference between deleting and deactivating your Facebook account. They are not interchangeable terms.
Disabling is for people who aren’t sure they want to leave Facebook forever. If you just want to take a break from social media, deactivation is a good option, although it’s not the only option. You can simply ignore Facebook without turning it off, but that depends on how much you want to go back.
Deleting Facebook is more permanent. It is a decision that you should not take lightly. If you delete your account, you can’t go back and expect any of your data to remain intact. There is a way to start over, but we’ll come back to that later.
Can people search for me if I turn off Facebook?
People can still search for you, but your profile won’t show up—that’s the theory.

Will my profile disappear completely if I deactivate Facebook?

So you can still use Messenger if you’ve deleted Facebook? Previously, you could use a phone number, but that’s changed: now you can’t use Messenger without a Facebook account, even if that account is disabled. So if you delete Facebook, you automatically delete Messenger as well.
Can people see my messages if I turn off Facebook?
Yes, you can still use Messenger, so your messages will appear after you deactivate your account. In fact, when you hit “Send,” as long as you have Internet access, the message goes straight to the recipient’s inbox.
However, if you delete Facebook, your previous messages will say “Facebook User”. The recipient will not be able to reply. Incidentally, this is the same thing that happens if you block someone.
Can you reactivate your Facebook account?
If you have deactivated your Facebook account, all you need to do is log back in to reactivate it. You can change your password if you forget it. Your profile still exists, as does your personal information. Previous messages and comments also often reappear.
In fact, Facebook makes reactivation very easy. That’s especially true if you’ve given the social network your phone number. What happens to tagged photos after deactivating Facebook?
Since Facebook has saved your data for your potential profit, the tags in the photo will still exist. However, those tags will convert to plain text. No one can link those images to a profile. The same is true for any other posts you’re tagged in. Again, your profile is not visible to anyone.

The same thing happens after deletion; tag will return plain text. If you open a new account, those original tags will not automatically be linked back to your name. Just think of the number of people with the same name as you: you can’t expect Facebook to find the right name exactly.
Let’s say you deleted your profile, then regretted it and decided to come back. You’ll need to ask your contacts to remove the previous tags and update them to your new profile.
