A man is going viral after discovering how to successfully exchange an order of McDonald’s cheeseburgers for free food from In-N-Out.

TikToker Anthony Villegas has an entire channel dedicated to fast food. Whether it’s trying new dishes or ordering off the secret menu, he’s always willing to try what his viewers suggest, even if the idea is a bit odd.

On April 3, a viewer suggested that Villegas should order a McDonald’s burger and then return it to In-N-Out by telling them they made a mistake. Not one to shy away from a challenge, the TikToker accepted it.

First, he went to In-N-Out and bought a cheeseburger before going to McDonald’s, where he bought one of theirs and changed the packaging. From there, he returned to In-N-Out with a plan ready.

“I had a cheeseburger, but I just want a regular hamburger if I can,” Villegas told an employee as he handed her his In-N-Out bag with the sandwich McDonald’s burger inside.

However, instead of taking it to the back, the employee gave the food back to Villegas and let him keep it while the employee prepared a simple burger for him.

When all is said and done, mission accomplished and the content creator now has another burger.

“And that’s how you get a free burger from In-N-Out,” he grinned.

Regardless, users in the comments section were impressed with how the staff handled the situation, and former employees even revealed why the tactic worked.

“Having worked there, you don’t even need proof of anything, just go up and say you’re missing a burger or something’s wrong with the burger and they will make another one, no receipt or proof of the burger,” one person commented.

“In-N-Out usually has the best customer service, I hate their lines but the service is top notch,” another commented.

Before you go and try this at your local chain, remember that Villegas doesn’t advise other customers to try this at home. He even admitted that after receiving the food, he let the staff know it was a joke and gave them $10 for their trouble.
