Boy scarred for life after mixing Molotov cocktail in TikTok’s fireball challenge

A 12-year-old boy was scarred over 50% of his body after participating in TikTok’s fireball challenge.

After participating in TikTok’s fireball challenge, in which competitors try to ignite alcohol to create a flaming Molotov cocktail, 12-year-old Corey was “scarred for life.”

While Corey was “extremely shocked,” he continued to reiterate how he “saw it.” [fireball challenge] in a video.” Corey’s mother, Tiffany Roper, told News 4 Tucson.

Tiffany then looked at the challenge on her phone and saw that “many” were wrong. By sharing Corey’s story, Tiffany hopes she can warn others about the potential threat that the fireball challenge presents.

“I ended up taking the faucet from my sink and spraying water down on him and flooding my kitchen until 9-1 got there,” Tiffany said.

When Corey was admitted to the ICU, he was in a coma for two weeks. When he woke up, he had to relearn how to walk.

After a month in the hospital, Corey was discharged. However, he still has to undergo weekly physical therapy sessions as well as medical procedures to increase his mobility.

Although Corey is “fine” and has returned to school, he still has second and third degree burns on about 50% of his body, including his face, ears, neck, back and arms.

He received five skin grafts in which doctors used skin from his thigh to cover the wound. Corey also underwent four debridement surgeries to clean up the burns.

Corey’s mother also noted that he “couldn’t remember” what happened and was just relieved that he was feeling better now.
